About Centurion Club

Centurion Club, located to the West of St. Albans and 40 minutes from Central London, is an 18 hole, par 72 course designed by Simon Gidman in 2013. Gidman, whose belief is that a golf course should be defined by the spirit of its landscape, has created a challenging layout meandering through spectacular topography and including some 80 bunkers, four major water features and undulating bent grass greens.

Each hole is unique and at 7,200 yards from the back tees, it will challenge the very best golfers both in terms of their playing ability as well as their strategic approach to the game, whilst the five teeing grounds of varying length will allow all golfing abilities to enjoy their round. Many of the carries and rough areas have been sown using indigenous fescue grasses, and occasionally these features have been added across the approaches to greens or across fairways giving the site a distinctly links feel.

The course explores existing pine woodland on holes 1 to 5, giving it a distinctly mature and natural feel at the start of the round, then moving into areas which have been carefully and dramatically shaped before returning to the woodland again on 14.

The 1st and 4th are reachable par 5s (with 2 very good hits), the second is a delightful par 3 with an interesting green providing tiers and undulation. The course opens up from the 6th hole and mixes some great vistas, nice driving holes and some fantastic second shot approaches. After 13, it's back briefly into the trees for a stunning par 3 and a great finish with some tough holes. The 18th, a cracking par 5 to finish in front of the modern clubhouse, is the course’s signature hole.

The Greens are sensibly sloped, very receptive and decently quick. With the greens running true, there's always a good chance of holding a long one so play with respect and you could reap the rewards.
