Al Zorah Golf Club, managed by Troon Golf and located in Ajman, is set in a natural environment of sandy areas and mangroves and this makes the course different to standard offerings. Occupying some 5.4 million square meters of lush coastal land, the lagoons and mangrove forests of Al Zorah are home to an astonishing variety of native marine and plant life, and also shelter flocks of resident and migratory birds.
The 18-hole championship golf course was designed by Nicklaus Design, the company of legendary 18-time Major Champion Jack Nicklaus. On many holes you are surrounded by mangroves and while playing you will be able to see flamingos, as well as a lot of other birds.
Golfers can tee off at the challenging par 72, which features generous fairways, strategically placed bunkers and two large lakes. The par 36, nine-hole course is more forgiving, making it ideal for those who are newer to the game.
Holes are laid out inside a natural mangrove landscape, with 1.5 kilometres of boardwalks to cope with the rising and falling water levels at some of the tidal-affected fairways.
A couple of lakes also feature during the round, most notably the par 3 15th hole, though the toughest sequence of holes is found in the back nine, where the par 5 11th is rated stoke index 1 for good reason – there may be a lack of greenside bunkers on this hole, but water threatens all the way from the tee to green, down the left side of the fairway.
The slick clubhouse is home to Thanani, a contemporary European restaurant and terrace, serving sharing plates from across Europe with an Arabic influence. There is also a golf academy and driving range.
